Roy Hawkins

I'm sorry to report the bad news that Roy Hawkins had a cardiac arrest on Sunday 22nd August on the Club run as he rode with a group of club members from Watchet towards West Quantoxhead.
Despite rapid attention from lots of helpers , plus the ambulance service, no one was able to resuscitate Roy and he was transferred to Musgrove where he was declared dead on arrival.
Though Roy was no longer a member of the Club he came out often and people will remember him fondly.
For those who wish to send condolences to his wife Hilary , and family, their address is : 89, Paganel Road, Minehead,
The Service is at Taunton Crematorium on the 2nd of September at 11am. Hilary has asked all attending not to wear black, but just sensible casual clothing.
Roy was not a religious man so it will be a Humanist service.
Please make all donations to the R.N.L.I.
Some of the club members will be cycling to the service, either driving to Taunton and riding the last part to the crematorium or cycling the whole way. Contact Steve Wawman (steve@mineheadcyclingclub.com) to find out more.

Talk - Cycling in New Zealand

On 6 October 2010 7.30pm there will be a talk at the Chemistry Theatre, University of Bristol, Bristol, by Tori James and Maria Leijerstam entitled – North to South - surely that's downhill?? This is about there experiences cycling through New Zealand. Click this paragraph to go to the webpage. The description, from the website is as follows:

"With very little planning or preparation, no previous experience of cycle touring and having only met each other a few months previously, Tori James and Maria Leijerstam loaded their bikes onto international flights to New Zealand with the intention of cycling 2400km from Cape Reinga to Bluff. Their journey was powered by an unrelenting appetite for extreme physical challenges, and more than a few blueberry muffins! This will be an entertaining talk which will either leave you wanting an ice-cream or reaching for the chamois cream..."
